Ministries to Serve in
Benevolence
The Benevolence ministry provides a variety of help to the James River Assembly family and community, including single moms, widows and spouses of deployed troops. The Benevolence ministry also coordinates major work projects such as Project Partnership (a public school makeover), and also assists people in need throughout the year.
Cherish Kids
God is doing amazing things through Cherish Kids. Many of you have seen this first hand as you've gotten involved through adoption or through Foster Care.
Constructors In Action
Constructors In Action (CIA) assist James River Assembly single moms, widows and spouses of deployed troops with minor home repairs. They also serve in major outreach events (like Extreme Makeover), local missions trips and retreat center workdays.
Counseling Ministry
The Counseling Ministry offers biblical guidance for the whole family on a wide variety of topics.
Creative Services
Creative Services produces pieces that promote and support the major church-wide events or that impact the brand identity of James River Assembly. Creative Services includes video, photography, and design volunteers.
Early Childhood
While adults are in worship service, we want children to experience much more than safe, dependable childcare, we want to welcome them into a caring environment designed just for them! It is our desire to teach preschoolers that: 1. God loves them 2. They are His special creation 3. Jesus wants to be their best friend forever
Elementary
In the Elementary ministries we want kids to experience God in a way they will never forget. You can be a part of changing history in the life of a child by joining our amazing team of leaders who love God and love serving His kids. From kids greeters to small group leaders, in all services there is an opportunity waiting for you.
Gatekeepers
Gatekeepers are dedicated to serving in the areas of building maintenance and maintaining a 5-star appearance of the church facilities.
James River Leadership College
James River Leadership College is a fully-accredited two-year degree program designed to engage students in an academic approach to biblical/leadership studies coupled with practical ministry experience while inspiring in them a personal pursuit of God and His direction for their lives.
JamesRiverCafe
The James River Cafe is a high traffic coffee shop during service times and special events. The James River Cafe plays an important role on a daily basis by working to advance the Kingdom of God with coffee and a warm greeting to our guests & church family.
JamesRiverMen
James River Men is designed for guys to connect with guys. Join us on the first Saturday of each month for the Men's Breakfast.
JamesRiverPreschool
At James River Assembly we love God and we love kids. While you are away your kids will have an adventurous day with structured activities such as: curriculum; promoting various skills required for kindergarten, music, play land, crafts, physical activity and much more. Kids enjoy a great time learning and spending time with their friends. Kids ministry is a core value of James River Assembly and we can't wait to share God's love with each child that enters our doors.

James River Resources exists to assist you in your daily life and equip you with powerful teaching by the Preaching Team. We have weekly messages, sermons series, books, music, leadership, and devotional material. You can also get our resources online or check out our free podcast.
JamesRiverWomen
The James River Women Ministry provides opportunities for women of all ages to connect with new friends, be encouraged through fellowship, laughter and girl time, all as they grow deeper in the Word!
JamesRiverWorship
We were created to worship God. James River Worship exists to bring people together in multiple expressions of worship. James River Worship is committed to raise up a generation of worshippers who will glorify God and lead others into His presence.
Life Groups
Life Groups are a great opportunity for people to experience life together in a small group setting. Life Groups meet in host homes on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday nights and are a great way to meet new friends and grow in your relationship with God.
Live Production
The Live Production ministry includes the behind-the-scenes team that take care of the audio, video, and lighting needs at James River Assembly. Our volunteers work in every venue, including James River Kids, Realife Student Ministries, and the main sanctuary.
Living Free
Living Free is a ministry of ongoing discipleship groups. The purpose is to help people conquer life-controlling issues, and recover from divorce and grief through Christ's power.
Meals Ministry
The Meals Ministry provides meals on an as needed basis to the James River Assembly family for funerals, prolonged illnesses and other times.
Mechanics In Action
Mechanics In Action is a ministry focused on meeting the vehicle maintenance needs of single moms, widows and families in need.
NewLife Connection
Developing new Christian connections and learning from the Bible about your New Life in Christ.
NewLife Hosts
People who are specifically trained to minister to those responding to the call of Christ. New Life Hosts are assigned to the service that they would normally attend and will respond when the Altar Call is given. For more information or to find out the next training date, please contact the Discipleship Department.
One Heart
Based on Acts 4:32, the purpose of One Heart is to minister to those in need. Non-perishable groceries and family essential items are collected from the community and distributed to James River Assembly families in need and to area food banks. Be a part of the blessing… through One Heart!
Pastor On Call Ministry
The Pastor On Call Ministry is made up of volunteers such as retired pastors or those with adequate training to assist the Pastor On Call with making and receiving phone calls of a pastoral nature.
Prison Ministry
Individuals and teams from James River Assembly are able to minister on a weekly basis to those incarcerated in one of the area jails or prisons.
R Kids
From tiny infants to inquisitive fifth graders, R Kids exists to minister to children during all Sunday and Wednesday services. Come help us share the love of Jesus with every child and empower them to impact their world with the Gospel!
Realife
Realife is all about, well… real life. It's about teenagers encountering God, making friends, growing together and making a difference. It's about helping you connect, elevate and discover.
Red Carpet Ministry
The Red Carpet ministry is front line, high priority, high impact, and life changing. This ministry exists for the purpose of creating a loving, warm atmosphere where people can experience the presence of God. We want our guests to feel the presence of God as soon as they arrive on the property and throughout the building and service.
School of Fine Arts
Now Offering Drama Classes! The School of Fine Arts provides private and group lessons for the arts in a safe, Christian environment. Our faculty includes highly trained professionals with a Christ-like approach to teaching and mentoring.
The River Fitness Center
The River Fitness Center is a full-service fitness center that is open to the community. Our goal is to offer a positive, family-oriented experience at a price that everyone can afford.
